New Season brings MASSIVE events to Wachovia Complex
A frenzy of MAJOR concerts, family entertainment, and sporting events highlights an eventful fall at the Wachovia Center and Wachovia Spectrum. An amazing series of “Remember the Spectrum” events at the Wachovia Spectrum are also featured in the autumn months to help celebrate the final season of the legendary venue.
CONCERTS:
Janet Jackson joins L.L. Cool J at the Wachovia Center on Thursday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m. to kick off the unforgettable list of fall concerts. The first “Remember the Spectrum” concert presented by Live Nation features Alan Jackson and Trace Adkins at the Wachovia Spectrum on Friday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. Hip-hop’s best performers including Jay-Z, T.I., Ne-Yo, Keyshia Cole, and T-Pain take to the Wachovia Center stage during Power 99’s Powerhouse on Friday, October 24 at 6 p.m. Celtic Thunder brings their powerful sound to the Wachovia Spectrum on Saturday, October 25 at 8 p.m. followed by the legends of classic rock, The Who, at the Wachovia Center on Sunday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m.
Coldplay kicks off the month of November at the Wachovia Center on Saturday, November 1 at 7:30 p.m. Rock Band Live featuring Panic at the Disco, Dashboard Confessional, Plain White T’s, and The Cab will rock the Wachovia Spectrum on Saturday, November 1 at 7 p.m. Performing hits from the 80s, 90s, and their new album, New Kids On The Block will bring “The Right Stuff” to the Wachovia Center on Wednesday, November 5 at 8 p.m. The Cheetah Girls will delight the pop fans at the Wachovia Spectrum on Tuesday, November 11 at 7 p.m. while AC/DC rocks out the Wachovia Center on Monday, November 17 at 8 p.m. Madonna brings her “Sticky & Sweet” Tour to the Wachovia Center on Thursday, November 20 at 8 p.m. Trans Siberian Orchestra will ring in the holiday season with two shows at the Wachovia Center on Saturday, November 29 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Tina Turner and Neil Young, two performers that helped make the Wachovia Spectrum a legendary venue for concerts, will return to help remember its history. Turner will perform at the Wachovia Spectrum for the fifth and final time on Saturday, November 29 at 8 p.m. and Young will join Grammy Award winning guest Wilco and special guest Everest to celebrate his eighth and final show at the famous arena on Friday, December 12 at 7 p.m.
FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT:
The “World Famous” Lipizzaner Stallions bring their beauty, grace, and unmatched skill to the Wachovia Spectrum for the final two equine shows at the legendary arena on Saturday, October 4 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Disney fans throughout the Philadelphia area will relive their favorite Disneyland® memories when Disney On Ice presents a Disneyland Adventure for eight shows at the Wachovia Center from Thursday, October 16 through Sunday, October 19.
The world’s top two gymnasts - Olympic Gold Medalists Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson join the Bronze Medal winning men’s gymnastics team, Olympic legend Shannon Miller, Radio Disney star Jordan Pruitt at the “2008 Tour of Gymnastics Superstars” at the Wachovia Center on Thursday, October 23 at 7:30 p.m. Family fun in November is highlighted by three performances of Playhouse Disney Live! where Mickey Mouse will bring all his friends to the Wachovia Spectrum on Saturday, November 22 at 12 noon, 3 p.m., and 6:30 p.m.
SPORTS:
The Philadelphia Flyers will “Remember the Spectrum” when they return to their former home, the Wachovia Spectrum, for a preseason contest against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, September 27 at 1 p.m. Due to overwhelming demand, the Flyers added an additional preseason game in their former home, as they face the Philadelphia Phantoms on Tuesday, October 7 at 7:30 p.m. The Flyers, who advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals last season are “Hungry for More” in 2008-09, as they open their regular season home schedule at the Wachovia Center against the New York Rangers on Saturday, October 11 at 7 p.m.
Newly signed Elton Brand joins returning stars Andre Iguodala, Andre Miller, Lou Williams, and Samuel Dalembert, as the Philadelphia 76ers encourage all of the Greater Philadelphia Region to “Run With Us” in 2008-09. The excitement starts at the Wachovia Center when the 76ers tip off their regular season on Wednesday, October 29 at 7 p.m. against the Toronto Raptors.
The Philadelphia Phantoms have big plans for the final season of the Wachovia Spectrum with nostalgic giveaways, unforgettable theme nights, and alumni visits to remember the great moments in Flyers and Phantoms history. The Phantoms will drop the puck to start their regular season home games at the Wachovia Spectrum on Friday, October 10 at 7:05 p.m. against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
The Philadelphia KiXX will celebrate the final season of the Wachovia Spectrum with nine regular season home games, as the KiXX will play in the inaugural season of the newly created National Indoor Soccer League (NISL).
Comcast-Spectacor is closing the 42-year-old Wachovia Spectrum at the conclusion of the 2008-09 Phantoms and KiXX hockey and soccer seasons. The company is encouraging residents throughout the Greater Philadelphia Region to celebrate the many wonderful memories of the Spectrum.
